COMPOSER COMPETITION

The 2019 inaugural Women in Music Festival Emerging Composer Competition was a huge success with a number of amazing original compositions being submitted from across the country.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who submitted a piece for the competition. The winning composition was performed during the festival on Sunday 10th March 2019. The details are just below.

The 2019 Emerging Composer Competition was won by the very talented Sarah Elise Thompson.​

 

Congratulations Sarah Elise!

Sarah Elise's beautiful piece Undone was set to poetry by Stephanie Millett and given its World Premiere performance by Deborah Cheetham AO, accompanied by Monica Curro (violin) and Stefan Cassomenos (piano).

Sarah Elise is an Australian composer and pianist, based in Sydney. She is a part of lost+sound: an all female composer collective based in Sydney, and is the co-artistic director and pianist in the new music ensemble SPIRAL, where she curates and performs new, minimalist inspired works.
