SARAH ELISE THOMPSON
Sarah Elise Thompson (b. 1996) is an Australian composer and pianist, based in Sydney.
Sarah is a part of lost+sound: an all female composer collective based in Sydney, and is the co-artistic director and pianist in the new music ensemble SPIRAL, where she curates and performs new, minimalist inspired works.
Her music has been performed Australia wide, in the US and Europe. Recent commissions include the Australian Youth Orchestra, Kupka’s Piano, Sideband, Nimbus Trio, percussionist Claire Edwardes, and New York based pianist Huizi Zhang for her debut recital at Carnegie Hall.
Sarah studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Hons). She studied with composer Gerard Brophy.
As a pianist, Sarah is dedicated to the development and performance of new compositions. She has previously been invited to perform at Extended Play - a 12 hour new music festival at City Recital Hall, Sydney, and at Backstage Music (with SPIRAL).
In 2019, Sarah has been commissioned to write new works for Plexus, Ensemble Offspring as a part of Hatched Academy, bass clarinetist Luke Carbon, and bass trombonist Rhys Oldham.
