The Classical (or Western Classical Art Music) components of the Festival was a real treat!
On Saturday night, the stunning soprano Greta Bradman (pictured right) and fabulous trio PLEXUS performed a World Premiere composed by the recipient of the PLEXUS 2019 Women in Music Commission, Anne Cawrse. Scored for Soprano, Violin, Clarinet and Piano, this brand new piece was dazzling!
Then - at the Sunday concert - outstanding soprano Deborah Cheetham accompanied by violinist Monica Curro and pianist Stefan Cassomenos, presented another World Premiere, this one composed by the recipient of the 2019 WiM Emerging Composers Competition, Sarah Elise Thompson. Sarah's piece was set to poetry by Stephanie Millett.
This piece was preceded by Monica and Stefan's performances of Elena Kats Chernin's sensual Slicked Back Tango, and Sally Greenaway's langorous and lovely Summer Beckons.
PLEXUS and the Festival were very proud indeed to bring new music to Women in Music Festival audiences.
